# Do International Staff Have to Pay Taxes?
## International staff are required to pay U.S. taxes and may be eligible for refunds after filing.
Yes, international staff are required to pay federal, state, and local taxes. Even though they're university students in their home countries, the IRS doesn't consider them students while in the U.S. As non-resident aliens, they must file a tax return, and they're often eligible for refunds.
