How do I apply for the Australian Work and Holiday Visa (462)?

You apply online through the Australian government. The 462 visa lets US citizens aged 18�30 live, work and travel in Australia for up to a year, and most applicants finish the application in a single session.

  1. Go to the government's Work and Holiday visa (subclass 462) page.
  2. Click the "Details" button under "First Work and Holiday Visa."
  3. Click "Apply," then "Create ImmiAccount."
  4. Work through the screens, answering honestly based on your own circumstances.

Compared with many visa applications, this one is fairly straightforward, and approvals often come through within a few weeks. A few questions do confuse people, and we cover those in a separate article.
