How do I write a letter to IRCC?

Use a short business-style letter to explain an issue or add context, and upload it as an optional document.

Write a short business-style letter explaining the issue, then upload it in place of the item IRCC asked for, or in the "Client information / Optional documents" section of your IEC application.

Use our template. Open the business letter template and make a copy before you start editing.

What to include

  • Address it "To whom it may concern" in a business letter format. Here's a business letter example.
  • Your identifying information: date of birth and passport number.
  • A short, to-the-point explanation. Leave out extra details.
  • Any screenshots or supporting documents, either in the body of the letter or as pages in one single PDF.

See our 2026 IEC Working Holiday application instructions for more on uploading documents.
